Previously, it was enough to walk to a point of interest and press a button to take a photo. Normally that wouldn’t be a big deal, but the process behind this mechanism has also been changed. This has been replaced by Daniel’s Sketchbook. Max’s Polaroid camera, which was used to achieve optional lenses and achievements that reward exploration, has also been removed. Is the pen more powerful than … the lens? I’m glad this has been removed and I support Dontnod’s decision to focus on the dynamic between the brothers instead.ĭog petting is obviously the most important feature. Sometimes the game would keep you from stepping back in time for particularly hard-hitting choices, but it was never really explained why that would happen in the lore. If you don’t like the result of your actions, you can just go back and try again. The manipulation of time in the original Life is strange makes some of your choices seem hollow. I am surprisingly in favor of this change. Warning: apart from reloading your backup file, you will not be able to reverse the decisions you make. I will say that during what I have been playing, at no time have I been able to use any abilities to change or alter my decision making. There are still some supernatural abilities present in the game, but to avoid spoilers, I won’t go into too much detail. Speaking of changes, time manipulation seems to be lacking in Life is Strange 2. It’s a welcome change in my opinion, and it allows the developer to explore a wide variety of locales in future episodes. Judging by the trajectory of this first episode, I have a feeling our protagonists will rarely have the comforts of home. Without going into too much detail, Sean and Daniel end up spending most of their time in the Washington state wilderness.

Previous episodes of the series have taken place primarily in or around a school, but Life is strange 2 breaks that mold right out of the door.

At 1440p I would occasionally run into dips below 60fps, but at 1080p this game performed like a dream.Įvery decision you make is under a microscope.

I played the episode on an old two-generation GTX 970, and was still able to play on the “Very High” preset. Life is strange 2 achieves these graphics improvements without making it impossible to run on low budget hardware. I noticed that Daniel’s hair was flying very lightly in the wind, which I don’t remember happening at first Life is strange. The animations, especially while the characters were speaking, have also been fine-tuned. The character models have improved as well, although they are still a weak spot in this series. I took the time to visit each bench I found to understand everything. There are benches scattered throughout the episode that give you a great view. In fact, I took the time to appreciate the world during my time with the game. Environmental lighting seems to have improved in all areas, especially outdoors. Life is strange 2 sports notable graphics improvements over its predecessor. I haven’t come across any color-based puzzles, but I’m sure the option would be appreciated. My only complaint, regarding the settings, would be a lack of colorblind mode. Personally, I have played with an Xbox 360 controller and have not encountered any issues. You can also link almost all the keys except a few. All the sliders you’d expect are present, including the ability to remove any licensed music from the in-game audio, which is good if you plan to to upload to YouTube or Tic. Life is strange 2 features a pretty standard set of settings for a game built into Unreal Engine 4.
